Joseph has been a beloved friend of GOT Ministries since we met him when he was 1 year old in 2010. During our recent trip, Joseph was not attending school. He had attended kindergarten at NLS last year, but due to behaviors and not being potty trained, his mother decided to remove him from the classroom. GOT reached out to the family and provided services with Joseph 3x/week for about an hour to address potty training, socialization, fine motor coordination and self dressing. One of the biggest obstacles for toileting was his posture and core strength required for balancing on a tall toilet. So, Emily and I fashioned a small toilet out of a bucket and a towel role taped to the top for a cushion. Norma, Joseph’s mother, was thrilled to see how well Joseph sat on the toilet and to see how well he tolerated toileting after we modified the toiilet seat!! When we left, Norma was planning on creating the same bucket toilet for her home so that she could support Josephs independence. We also worked diligently on dressing and now Joseph is able to remove and put on his pants, socks and shoes, ratherr than Norma having to dress him completely.
