LODGING

GOT Ministries coordinates lodging with a Guatemalan family through the Escuela Maya Spanish School. The home provides wireless internet access and 3 meals daily, six days of the week. The location of the home is 3 blocks from the bus stop for travel to fieldwork placement, as well as the Escuela Maya Spanish School. Laundry facilities are not available at the home stay, but the nearest laundromat is 2 blocks away for washing and drying clothing as needed. These expenses are included in OTS budget and tuition costs.

FOOD

The home stay family provides three homemade meals a day 6 days a week. Our students may choose to eat out as often as he/she prefers, but the additional cost is the student's responsibility. Many options for good food are available in Antigua, as it is a tourist-oriented town. GOT Ministries advises our students on safe restaurant and food recommendations in Antigua upon arrival. Drinking the water from faucets (when brushing teeth or otherwise) is strongly discouraged and can cause illness during the student's stay. The home stay provides clean drinking water, and many shops nearby provide water bottles for purchase.

AIRFARE

GOT Ministries coordinates and manages travel for our students in order to minimize the complications with timing and transportation needs. The cost of the flight is estimated in the OT student budget. Final payment amount will reflect actual travel costs.

CASELOAD

There are approximately 30 children on our school-based service caseload, and 5-10 children on our outpatient/early-intervention service caseload. The New Life School classes are 8am-12pm Monday through Friday, during which we provide school-based services. We provide outpatient and early intervention services in the afternoon hours; typically seeing our patients twice a week. Upon arrival, OT students are oriented to New Life School and their staff, as well as schedule and time management.

TECHNOLOGY

GOT Ministries provides technology for our students to complete documentation and research as needed to provide services. Wireless internet is provided at the home stay; there are also many cafes and restaurants nearby that provide access to wireless internet. The New Life School provides quality and consistent wireless internet services to allow for supervision and observation of OT students' evaluations and treatments. A camera and necessary audio technology are in the OT therapy room to allow for easy observation of OT students with patients, as required by ACOTE Fieldwork requirements.

TRANSPORTATION

GOT Ministries coordinates transportation for each trip as necessary to and from the airport through our local partnerships. Transportation to and from New Life School is via “microbuses” through public transportation. These options have been frequently used by GOT Ministries faculty, as well as many other volunteers, and have been proven safe.
